A brand new baby brings a lot of change into the life of young parents. Suddenly, they have to start thinking about feeding the baby, cleaning the baby, putting the baby to sleep. Pretty much everything they do will revolve around the small creature that charmingly took over their whole life. So, if you’re about to see that new special little person in your friends’ life, and you want to bring a gift that will be both useful and pretty, here are the basics of baby clothing for the first year of life.

Hats and caps are a must for babies – they can get chilled a lot easier than older children or adults, so keeping their little heads warm is important. Also, babies are more prone to getting sunburns, so it’s generally a good idea to keep them out of the sun as much as possible, and if not – protective clothing is mandatory, including a hat that will protect the head, the face and the neck from the sun.

Onesies are the most practical and useful part of baby attire. They will keep the baby’s diaper in place, they allow easy access to the diaper, and they’re easy to put on and remove. Onesies can be worn both as a clothing item on their own, or they can be worn under other clothing, to keep the baby warm and prevent other clothing from rubbing against the baby’s skin.

You could also get the baby some socks, shoes and mittens. Socks are worn around the house, baby shoes are worn when going outside, and mittens only in the winter and when it’s particularly cold – the same rules that apply for adults apply for the babies here.

Pants, shirts, leggings and other separate clothing items will keep the baby warm, stylish, and easy to change. You can get these with prints, in a variety of patterns and made out of different material, so be careful to choose only the items that will not irritate the baby’s skin.

So there it is - all the clothing a little one will need to be warm, cute, well protected and easy to change. Plus, if you look carefully, you’ll be able to find high quality items that come with different prints and designs which look funny and whimsical on a baby, which is always a good bonus. And of course, everyone loves a practical gift - new parents especially.
